JOB TITLE: Direct Support Professional (DSP)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·  DSP will provide and carry out the services in the clients plan of care.

·  DSP will be responsible and supervise individuals to whom he/she is assigned. 

·  Oversee physical care, development of acceptable habits and attitudes; management of individual behavior and helping to meet the goals and objectives of any service plan. 

·  Participate in individual day support assessments; ensuring the daily needs of the individuals is properly met. 

·  Escorts individuals to and from training and community activities as assigned. 

·  Provides direct supervision and guidance to ensure safety and welfare of individuals.

·  Conduct and document monthly fire drills according to DMR procedures. 

·  Teach individuals basic First-Aid, fire safety, emergency skills. 

·  Observe individuals daily for behavioral changes, physical injuries/conditions and cleanliness, and conduct accordance with Individual Service Plan. 

·  Document all service hours and provide specific information regarding individuals care.

·  Performs required housekeeping duties in order to maintain a clean, safe and orderly 

environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, skills, and ability

One year of work experience in either an In-Home Services or providing direct care support to individuals with Developmental Disabilities. Good oral and written skills, including documentation, Ability to stoop, bend, stand and lift is a must. 

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent (GED). One year of experience working with individuals who have a developmental disability and related physical, health and behavioral concerns in lieu of the one tear experience a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Personal Care Aide (PCA) certificate is acceptable

Must have a valid Virginia driver’s license, a copy of a current driving record from DMV, criminal background investigation and a registry check by the Department of Social Services. Certificates are required for Therapeutic Options, First-Aid and CPR.
